BACKGROUND:
Flame Tokay is one of the rarest grape varieties in California today. It had its heyday up until the 50’s and 60’s in Lodi, after which demands changed. It has been steadily declining ever since, to the point where less than a few acres are left in the whole state. I found it by pure accident and was immediately intrigued by it for winemaking. I’m very glad I took a chance on this variety, because it has proven to make a great wine.

STYLE:
A skin-contact rosé wine. This 2025 vintage brings us back stylistically to the longer maceration of the 2018 and 2019 vintages, which have proven to be amazingly beautiful wines as they age., It still has those unmistakable apple and tapenade notes, but with a little more complexity in the end compared to the last vintage.

This is the first year this wine is bottled in a dark bottle, to highlight its age-ability.

VINEYARD:
After a few problematic harvests in 2023 and 2024 - 2025 finally proved to be the recovery year for this 100 year old vineyard (planted in 1926) that we farm ourselves. This was also the first year we farmed completely organically at the Blodgett Vineyard.
