BACKGROUND:
After a few years of not making a Chardonnay, I got excited about this newly planted Santa Barbara County vineyard. It’s in the perfect spot, on the leeside of the Santa Rita Hills on old seabed. The east facing rows makes for perfect cold climate plantings.

STYLE:
I was looking for a vineyard that could provide the leaner, more green and yellow fruit notes I prefer in Chardonnay. I wanted to veer away from the grape’s natural tendency to pick up tropical notes. And I think we succeed in that with this cold climate Chardonnay.

Not cold stabilized, so expect some slight crystals in bottom if heavily chilled.

YF2 Vineyard lies in the eastern part of Santa Rita Hills on sandy seabed soil.
