BACKGROUND:
In my Rhône-specific series BIOGRAF, where I mainly focus on Syrah, I got the opportunity to try some Grenache from the Napa Valley. It’s a variety not widely planted in this great region, so it was with great enthusiasm I decided to try it in 2023. Very glad I did, because it has become one of the favorite wines I made in that vintage.

STYLE:
I didn’t want to impose heavy-handed winemaking on to this, so this was very simply made in a classical style, with just the smallest amount of 20% new oak profiling, to just fill out a tiny bit.

Not filtered, so expect some slight sediment in bottom.

VINEYARD:
Ciel Clair Vineyard is a small holding in the town on Calistoga, öliterrrly in someone’s backyard. It’s actually slightly mixed vineyard, with some Petit Syrah and Mourvèdre interplanted, but is predominantly Grenache. The quality speaks for itself.
