BACKGROUND:
I wanted to honor my late grandfather, who was my introduction to wine and was a great Bordeaux-lover, by showcasing small batch Cabernet Sauvignon from great vineyards. Oftentimes here in California, there’s too much emphasis on Napa and Sonoma, but Cabernet is grown all over this state in great smaller vineyards. These wines will be one-off’s showcasing these smaller vineyards and only available for the mailing list and wine club members.

STYLE:
San Diego being a hotter region, I wanted to pick this early and retain a lot of freshness. And it certainly has that - a lot of unripe cherry notes and very primal light red fruit. This wine needs a decent decant or a little aging to find its perfect grove, but will reward with a freshened rarely seen in California Cabernets.

Not filtered, so expect some slight sediment in bottom.

Cloverwood Vineyard is a small homestead vineyard in the hills above Fallbrook, in the newly minted San Luis Rey AVA.
